Our love for all things organic began in 1997, through a chance encounter with an organic farmer at an acupunturist clinic. We began to consume organic vegetables, and were convinced by the benefits organic food had on our health, as well as the long term sustainability it conferred on the environment.
In 1998, we formed the brand EcoGreen, selling from home organic vegetables from our 20 acre organic farm in Rembau, Negri Sembilan. Our managing director, Wong Kai Yuen, academically trained as a chemical engineer, was involved in the farming as well as marketing of the organic produce.
After two years, we opened our first organic retail shop in Taman Tun Dr Ismail, aiming to create "organic" awareness among the nearby residents, and providing authentic organic produce to the community.
In 2004, we launched EcoGreen Organic Cafe @ Bangunan BAKTI Siti Hasmah, located at the fringe of TTDI. We tailored our menu to cater to both vegetarians and non-vegetarians, emphasising on the use of organic ingredients as well as adhering to our culinary policies of NO monosodium glutamate (MSG), NO microwaving, NO Transfat, NO artificial preservatives, colorings, flavourings and enhancers.
As the organic market continued to expand, we opened EcoGreen Life Cafe in 2006 next to our Organic Shop in TTDI, serving organic and natural food to the local residents and office community.
Mr Wong Kai Yuen is also actively involved in lobbying for more government support for the organic market. He has been involved in the drafting of the Malaysia Organic Standard (MS1529) which led to the Malaysian Certification SOM (Sijil Organik Malaysia). Mr Wong Kai Yuen is now also involved in OAM (Organic Alliance Malaysia).
EcoGreen Organic is constantly innovating fresh new concepts with the aim to create more awareness in Malaysia. We are proud to be part of the pioneers of organic food in Malaysia, playing a role in the betterment of health to Malaysians, and contributing to the environment.
